Senior Accountant/CFO
1 open positions
Senior Accountant / Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Company: Tritel Technologies Limited Location: Nairobi, Kenya — with regional scope across East Africa Department: Finance Reports to: Managing Director / CEO Employment type: Full-time, permanent Title/level: Confirmed on appointment based on the selected candidate's depth and scope (Senior Accountant through CFO)
About Tritel Technologies
Tritel Technologies Limited is a Kenya-based ICT solutions provider and systems integrator operating across East Africa. Our solution pillars span Digital Power, Connectivity, Cyber Security, and Productivity. The business runs on two intertwined motions: a channel motion — working through and alongside vendor and partner ecosystems — and a project motion — delivering integrated solutions on defined timelines and margins. Our finance function has to think natively in both.
Role Purpose
This is a commercially embedded finance leadership role, not a back-office bookkeeping position. The person we hire owns the financial engine of a business where channel economics and project delivery together generate, consume, and tie up cash. They must be equally comfortable in the ledger and in a project or channel review — translating fluently between the two — with a proactive, cash-first mindset and the standing to hold financial discipline while remaining a business enabler.
The heaviest single bias of this role is cashflow and working-capital management: understanding, forecasting, and actively steering the cash-conversion cycle of a project-and-channel business.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cashflow & Working-Capital Management (primary emphasis)
- Own end-to-end working-capital visibility and rolling cashflow forecasting for the business.
- Understand and manage the full cash-conversion cycle — vendor payment terms, deal financing, project milestone billing, and the lag between spend and collection.
- Manage liquidity proactively rather than reactively; anticipate cash pinch points before they arrive and plan around them.
- Model the cash impact of commercial, channel, and project decisions before they are committed.
2. Receivables & Payables (Debt) Management — both sides of the ledger
- Run disciplined debtors/receivables management: aging analysis, active collections, credit exposure and credit limits for customers.
- Run disciplined creditors/payables management: vendor terms, distributor and OEM obligations, and the sequencing of payments against available cash.
- Continuously manage the tension between the two — protecting supplier relationships and deal economics without over-extending liquidity.
3. Project Financial Management
- Own project costing, margin control, and revenue recognition at the project level.
- Track project-level cashflow and show clearly how each project's decisions feed the overall cash position.
- Partner with Delivery to keep projects on their planned timelines and margins, and flag financial risk early.
4. Channel & Commercial Finance
- Understand and manage the financial mechanics of a distribution/reseller model: rebates, backend margins, vendor credit terms, and deal-registration economics.
- Provide commercial finance support to Channel and Commercial teams on pricing, deal structuring, and margin protection.
- Ensure channel incentives and vendor programs are accurately captured, claimed, and reconciled.
5. Financial Control, Reporting & Statutory Compliance
- Maintain accurate books, month-end close, management accounts, and board-level financial reporting.
- Design and enforce internal controls appropriate to a channel-and-project business.
- Ensure full compliance with Kenyan statutory and tax obligations — including PAYE, VAT, withholding tax, corporate income and installment tax, NSSF, statutory health contributions (SHIF/SHA), and the Affordable Housing Levy — and with IFRS-based reporting and external audit requirements.
- Manage the relationship with auditors, tax authorities (KRA), banks, and other financial counterparties.
6. Business Partnering & Stakeholder Management
- Work across Commercial, Channel, Delivery, HR, and vendors/partners as a trusted finance partner.
- Hold financial discipline while enabling the business — a partner and advisor, not a blocker.
- Translate financial reality into decisions the commercial and delivery teams can act on.
7. Leadership & Team
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team (as applicable to the confirmed level of the role).
- Set the standard for finance rigor, ethics, and commercial partnership across the organization.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Professional accounting qualification: CPA(K) and/or ACCA (or equivalent), in good standing.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- Substantial senior finance experience, including a period in a finance leadership or ownership role.
- Demonstrated mastery of cashflow and working-capital management in a business with a genuine cash-conversion cycle.
- Hands-on experience managing both debtors and creditors, and the trade-off between them.
- Strong working knowledge of Kenyan statutory, tax, and employment compliance.
- Proficiency with ERP / accounting systems and strong financial modelling in Excel.
Preferred / Advantageous
- Experience in ICT, technology, systems integration, distribution, or another project-and-channel business model.
- Exposure to vendor/OEM channel economics — rebates, backend margins, deal registration, vendor credit lines.
- Experience across East African markets and multi-currency environments.
- Track record of securing or managing deal/working-capital financing facilities with banks or vendors.
Key Competencies & Attributes
- Cash-first thinking — instinctively frames decisions in terms of liquidity and the conversion cycle.
- Commercial acumen — understands how deals, channels, and projects actually make and consume money.
- Analytical rigor — comfortable in the detail of the ledger and in scenario/trade-off analysis.
- Stakeholder influence — credible across Commercial, Channel, Delivery, HR, and external partners.
- Disciplined but enabling — protects the business without becoming a bottleneck.
- Integrity and ownership — takes full accountability for the numbers and the controls behind them.
Compensation & Terms
- Compensation is banded and will be confirmed by Tritel commensurate with the appointed level (Senior Accountant through CFO) and the candidate's experience.
- Statutory deductions and benefits apply per Kenyan law. Full package details are shared during the offer stage.
Recruitment Process & Sign-off
Applications and appointment decisions are routed through HR and Finance per Tritel Technologies' standard sign-off process. Shortlisted candidates should expect competency-based interviews and scenario-based assessment cases, including practical exercises on cashflow forecasting and debtor/creditor trade-offs.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit a CV and cover letter to Tritel Technologies' HR, referencing Senior Accountant / CFO. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
